It’s been about 5 months since I purchased my solid black Asics GT 2170 running shoes from the Asics store in Midtown Manhattan so I thought it would be a good time to review them, but first check out this picture of the shoes. Very slick looking.
The Asics GT 2170 was the first pair of true running shoes I’ve ever purchased and so far I’m very satisfied with them. I’ve used them for training and have ran 2 5K road races in them. They’ve worked well for me both indoors when the weather wasn’t cooperating and outdoors on various surfaces including concrete, gravel, and dirt.
The biggest and most noticeable aspect of these shoes is the cushioning. You will notice right off the bat that these shoes provide great cushioning for your feet. Each time my foot steps down it feels like a nice, soft, bouncy landing which is obviously good for your knees and just feels right in general.
The next major positive of the shoes is the stability. The shoes do a good job of stabilizing your ankles so you are running straight and avoid any ankle or knee twists. This is a huge positive for me since you never know what kind of obstacles and people you’ll have to dodge while trying to get in a running workout in Manhattan.
Another positive of the shoes is their durability. When I bought them, I was told they’d last 900 miles or something like that. As someone new to running I had no idea what to make of that number, but I was told I could expect 10+ months depending on how often I ran. I haven’t gotten close to 900 miles yet, but I definitely think these shoes will last at least 2 years for me. After running consistently 3-4x per week for 5 months they still feel almost new.
Overall, I would recommend the Asics GT 2170 shoes for anyone who is looking for a solid, mid-range running shoe.
